Human Relations Area Files (HRAF)
A microfiche collection of mostly primary source materials on cultures or societies representing all major areas of the world, approximately 360 cultures of indexed ethnographic information comprise this collection. This set can be used for cultural comparisons (for example, mythology, taboos, causes of illness, ethnobotany) or for studying all aspects of a particular culture (Copper Eskimo, Iroquois, Trobriands and many more). The HRAF collection is organized according to two main print resources: The Outline of World Cultures (OWC) and the Outline of Cultural Materials (OCM), both located on top of Cabinet 59 where the fiche are filed. The Index to the Human Relations Area Files,1974-1983 (Microform Reference GN 25 I542) is a subject index to the microfiche set organized by OCM category code. The index is most useful for determining the coverage of a subject in a file without going directly to the files themselves.

Although histories exist about this chapter in American history, this digital collection of Japanese relocation camp newspapers record the concerns and the day-to-day life of the interned Japanese-Americans. Although articles in these files frequently appear in Japanese, most of the papers are in English or in dual text. Many of the 25 titles constituting this collection are complete or substantially complete.

 Indexes over 15 million articles published in the New York Times from September 1851 to the present. Searching is free, however, you must either use the citation information to locate the articles on microfilm in Truman's library collection or purchase the full-text through the web site.
Users can search for articles by keyword or phrase, author, headline, date, or date range. Searches may be limited to articles only or broadened to include advertisements and other listings.

ScienceDirect is a website which provides subscription-based access to a large database of scientific and medical research published by Elsevier. Truman has a very small number of the titles published by Elsevier. The journals are grouped into four main sections: Physical Sciences and Engineering, Life Sciences, Health Sciences, and Social Sciences and Humanities. Article abstracts are freely available, but access to their full texts (in PDF and, for newer publications, also HTML ) generally requires a subscription or pay-per-view purchase. These articles can also be requested on Interlibrary Loan (ILL).
